Media Garbage (research seminar)

tvhotelA new research seminar for students in the MA Television and Cross-Media Culture has started: Media Garbage. This research seminar will draw on a diverse selection of theoretical and critical writings on waste, materiality, excess, kitsch, and aesthetics to explore the interrelations between media and garbage in the era of globalization. Themes include trash TV, dirty art, green media, cultures of disposability and re-use, and the spectacularization of waste. The seminar will seek to connect these themes to broader concerns in contemporary media and cultural studies with issues of sustainability, consumerism, and obsolescence.
